Mission: The Shadow of Arachne
Location: USS Athena
Timeline: MD-03
643 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure

Kane watched the two Breen ships on the long-range sensors, slowly but steadily they were gaining. It was like a hanging, lingering threat over them, seemingly without a place to hide and little strength to fight. It's the waiting that kills you, he mused silently.

Thumbing the internal comms, he started to work his way through the senior staff.

"Kane to Engineering. I assume that coolant leak is resolved and I'm not shedding any warp cores yet. What's our status down there? I could really use some more power if you can muster it."

“Yes sir, the coolant leak is fixed. Most of the systems are back up and running, but there’s still a few things that need some work. I’m just finishing up in the phaser control room, but I’ll make my way back to engineering and get you that power,” Keating replied.

Switching up the channels, Kane's next stop was Sickbay.

"Sickbay. Doctor Reed, Commander Taeler, if you're down there what sort of casualty estimates are we looking at?"

Santu stopped in her tracks, already on the threshold of Sickbay, "Bridge, this is Commander Taeler, I was about come back up to the Bridge, I don't have a current number for you." She never really looked at the people there beyond delivering the three officers and administering some treatments to them. She had no clue as to the total extent of the damage.

Doctor Reed slapped his combadge and rattled off his report to the bridge, "Reed here, captain. Numerous officers are in stable condition for broken bones and contusions. However, three are critical, including Lieutenant Danton."

"Security. Get me an update - I'm hearing a report that you found a saboteur?"

Savin locked eyes with Dessame. "What is going on?" He asked, knowing some message was received. He tapped his own commbadge. "This is Savin, I am with Lieutenant Sar, as you had ordered. What is going on?"

"You tell me. I'd hope my Chief of Security would know about a potential act of sabotage on board," Kane retorted. "Lieutenant P'rel, have you managed to obtain any more information from our 'guest'?"

=/\= I expect results imminently, Captain =/\= came the cryptic reply from the Vulcan officer.

"Lieutenant Danton. We're looking down the barrel of a couple of Breen ships out here and our options aren't looking too good. I need some of that science magic to figure us a way out. I'm talking nebula clouds, stellar debris, solar systems - anything we can use to hide or evade."

"A slice of my grandmother's fruit cake sir, will put them them right to sleep." She replied, her fingers tapping away. "I uh, have something but it's a bit of a journey to get there. There's an emissions nebula about a light year away. Other than that I would suggest some kind of distraction." She didn't know if they had the power but she had a little suggestions. "A projection of something? A sensor echo, make them think something else is out there?"

"I like your thinking, Lieutenant. Get to work. You have three hours to throw me a solid plan," Kane replied.

Ausra let out an inaudible sigh. "Coming up with a miracle, yes sir!" She glanced around her. Who could she steal to help her work on this...?

"Meanwhile we're on the run from Breen warships and our odds aren't looking too good. I'll need everyone's very best if we're to get through this in one piece," Kane concluded. He wasn't one for impassioned speeches, but the general sense was that things were on a knife-edge. They needed something from their commanding officer. "These sons of bitches murdered an entire Starfleet crew to get to us. I'm damned if I'm going to let their sacrifice be for nothing. Let's get this done. Kane out."
