There was always something unnerving about arriving on a new ship, stations were less imposing due to the large scale, and new faces were easier to miss on volume. Small ships were also much less imposing on the counter value, everyone knows everyone else's business and all the ins and outs.

It took mere moments for Ame to transport from the Endeavour to the Athena. Her belongings were directly transported into her quarters which was always efficient and then was the awkward walk up to the bridge for the standard chain of events. It was time to report in. Before her arrival and before packing the last of her stuff, she took the time to study the deck plan.

Deck Five, junior officer’s quarters, holodecks and transporters. Engineering Labs perked her interest but that would be on her own time, she would be sure to introduce herself to the Chief Engineer. Now for the turbolift, a moment of peace where the Bajoran could check her uniform a final time and exhale the breath she had been holding as she walked.

Kane was halfway out of his ready room door when the turbolift opened and deposited the officer he'd been expecting. She was early; a good sign.

"Lieutenant Ame?" He motioned for her to follow him back the way he had come, into his recently refurbished ready room. "Welcome aboard," he continued, eying the PADD in his hand and not yet sitting down. "I trust the transfer from the Endeavour was smooth? I imagine you were looking forward to the upgraded facilities on board a Prometheus-class ship."

“Commodore.” The Bajoran greet him. Was it too early to correct him? She deemed that to be the case, so she followed him across the bridge and into his ready room. “It was seamless as ever and yes. This is quite the upgrade compared to 621 and a Defiant class.” She commented with a smile, her eyes glancing around the room picking up on signs of personal interest.

“My full medical review was completed prior to transfer by Doctor Karel.” He was most meticulous.

"As standard," Kane nodded, almost dismissing the comment as a given. "Well, you'll also find expectations come with the upgrade too. Our assignments usually require us to handle complex tactical engagements, meaning I need a medical officer that isn't going to be quick to challenge orders and will get on with the job. I suspect that you fit that category, correct?"

If there was one thing she was good at, it was fixing people and following orders. “I understand, I believe I do fit that category.” Ame paused a moment, “Are there any concerns you have? I understand there were some injuries during the Athena’s last mission. I’ll be sure to review any cases as a priority.”

Impressed that she had at least read up on the assignment and the ship's most recent encounters, Kane waved a hand slightly. "The casualties were primarily from the marine contingent temporarily assigned to us. Anything else was bumps and scrapes. Nothing you need to be too concerned about. Though your predecessor was a little...lacking, shall we say, in the 'get-up-and-go' stakes. I suspect that I'll have the opposite problem with you."

Her eyes widened, ‘bumps and scrapes’ included chest cavities ruptured by Gorns. It was an interesting take but Ame lived for the disaster, it was what she was good at after all. “Well, I don’t like to wish an injury, I keep myself occupied with things between everyday routines Commodore. Whilst I’m not a galactically renown Doctor, I have my ambition. It won’t interfere with my assignment and I am perfectly capable of following orders."

“Someone mentioned a bit of a party when I transported in.” The Bajoran wasn’t keen on the idea but she could surely intermingle even with an awkward laugh and small talk.

"Indeed. Commander Zora's birthday is imminent." Kane nodded, noting that scuttlebutt was certainly rapid if she already heard about it. At least it wasn't meant to be a surprise party, otherwise the cat would have been out of the bag weeks ago. "It would be a good occasion to meet some of your new colleagues among the senior staff."

“It sounds like a great way to get to know people.” Ame’s mind wandered to alcohol consumption and the slew of injuries that often followed a lack of coordination. Who knew that dancing could be so dangerous? “Is there anything else I should be aware of?” Her hands rested behind her back as her mind began to create a checklist: Introduction to staff, priority cases, introduction to engineering and sorting out the belongings she no longer required from her quarters.

"You may wish to introduce yourself to the medical team. Dr Savin is..." Kane angled his head slightly. "Certainly different from most counsellors I have encountered. But we have an excellent surgical team on board. You shouldn't be lacking in supportive expertise."

Ame nodded in agreement, “The Lieutenant Commander is already on my list as he requires a review following his … incident. There is quite the roster and I look forward to meeting them.” There was a pause, “Do you have any questions for me Commodore?” She couldn’t think of anything of interest, nothing stood out from her record.

Kane shook his head. "Not on this occasion. However your record to this point is exemplary; I can see that you're going to be someone to keep an eye on." He put down his PADD. "I've been attempting to make better connections with my senior staff of late. Once the festivities are done, I would like to extend an invitation to dinner in the Captain's Mess at some point. Perhaps bring a dish that has meaning to you, if that would be acceptable?"

Exemplary was a strong work in Ame’s book, she kept her nose clean and tried her best to keep on top of things. Sure, there would be the occasional subspace anomaly from time to time and there were always external factors to juggle on top of duty. A faint awkward smile pushed past her lips at the compliment.

She didn’t see an invitation to the Captain’s Mess on her cards and she widened her eyes before lifting them in thought. “I can have a think, I’m sure there’s something that fits the bill. That’s more than acceptable. Is there anything that’s off the table, I didn’t see any mention of allergies.”

"Well then, I suppose my Chief Medical Officer has some research to do then." Kane smiled thinly. "I'll make the arrangements for sometime in the next few weeks."

The Bajoran gave a soft chuckle, followed by a nod, “I sure do, and I look forward to it.” Ame smiled, “Is there anything else?” There was so much to do and getting stuck in, putting faces to names within Medical and keeping on top of tasks were a priority. It seemed she had a record to live up to.

"Not at the moment. You're dismissed, Doctor." Kane nodded, letting her leave. It felt good to have a new medical officer, even if this one was a little less experienced than the previous one. He just hoped she lasted longer.
