The office was a sanctuary, a moment of rest and quiet away from the mayhem that was main sickbay. Savin had just ordered NVeid and a handful of nurses to take a break after dealing with a particularly violent patient. The young man had been brought in with severe injuries but in his panic he had turned violent and thrashed and kicked at those that were trying to help. Savin had been dealt a savage kick to his side which was still throbbing. It led him to conclude that a few runs had to be bruised at the very least.
He stood leaning against the doorframe to his office, arm folded across his torso as his attention was drawn towards a new arrival. It wasn't so much the arrival itself that drew his attention but it was the alertness she had about herself. He pushed himself away from the doorframe and started his way towards her.
Kae walked in half limping. She'd recently encountered one of the bugs and twisted her ankle, something she felt embarrassed about. Keeping her expression unreadable, she looked around for some medical assistance. She still had yet reported in for her crew physical yet.
Without a word, Savin approached her, moving gingerly. He offered his free arm, leading her straight into the quiet of the office. He picked up his tricorder as he passed the desk and guided her towards a vacant seat. "What happened?" He asked, turning questioning eyes towards her.
“I stepped wrong and twisted my ankle. Thought I’d get my crew physical done today too,” she exhaled, limping slightly towards the offered chair
Waiting until she was seated, Savin gingerly knelt before her and carefully took off her boot. "I am going to touch you," he warned the Vulcan woman as he proceeded to gently probe her ankle. "I fear you have severely sprained your ankle," he continued, looking up to see her response. "Best I can do under the circumstances is bandage it. Are you in agreement with this method?"
Kae shrugged, "It's not that bad. Just a minor sprain. I'll walk it off within the next fifteen mintues."
"No you will not," Savin answered firmly, his expression conveying the force of his words. "You will remain off your feet for at least the next hour so the swelling can go down. I will bandage it and after an hour you may walk, but you should keep off your feet as much as circumstances allow you to." He winced visibly as he returned to his feet to retrieve said bandage.
Kae sighed, watching him go retrieve the bandage. Shifting her weight on the chair, she allowed her eyes observe main sickbay, taking in the storm. Things happened quickly. A new place. A new universe. Bugs. More bugs. Shuddering, Kae exhaled, turning her nose up at the thought of more bugs. She hated them.
Seeing the shudder as he returned he gingerly got down before her again and gently wrapped up her ankle. "Are you alright?" He asked, not at all certain why she had shivered. With his focus somewhat fractured with all the emotions flying around sickbay, and not being in the habit of reading people's thoughts to begin with, he had no way to be sure. It could be any number of reasons, from his point of view.
"Huh," She wondered, observing his concerned expression and shook her head, "Oh no, just thinking about the bugs. Hate em. Always have. So, about that crew physical? Should we do it now? I think I'm overdue."
"Usually, bugs are useful," Savin answered absently, then shook his head as if to try and regain some semblance of focus. "My apologies, yes we may as well while you are here." He gritted his teeth as he shifted to reach for his tricorder, his expression changing from concern to discomfort. From his still kneeling position he proceeded to scan her, then pushed himself up to his feet to complete his scan. "A more elaborate examination will be necessary once matters return to normal," he announced as he gingerly moved around her. "However, barring your injury you appear to be in good health. Once you have rested, you may return to your duties."
She'd notice him in pain and quietly inquired, "Are you okay? We can continue the Assessment at a later time if you're not in pain? I don't require rest. Need to get back out there and continue my rounds."
She tried to explain that she normally don't require rest. Maybe a few winks. However, the current state of the ship required her attention. She can't sleep knowing the ship is in distress.
Part of her query was lost to him as he moved around her, but he caught the other half and thus realised she had asked him something. "Apologies, I missed part of your query as I cannot hear you," he apologised. "You are the best judge on how much sleep you require. However I did not refer to sleep when I mentioned rest." He gestured towards her bandaged foot as his attention returned to seeing her speak. "I referred to your injury. However, as I cannot make you stay, you are cleared to resume your duties."
Kae nodded,"I will tend to my energies. Thank you."
She gently got out of her seat and left the office.
Savin watched her go, moving to lean heavily against his desk arm folded across his torso. He would take a few minutes before heading back into the fray. What choice did he have?
