Kane's mouth was dry as he watched the much smaller USS Glory drift listlessly on the main viewer. He didn't need the engineering report to tell him the score; likely most of main power out, severe hull damage.
"Life signs? What's it looking like over there?" he asked.
"Their power systems are all over the place, sir. Hard to tell," the Ensign at Ops reported. "Looks like their Life Support is out."
"Transporter Room. I want people beamed off there immediately." Kane glanced at Dr. Reed. "Doctor, you'll be needed in sickbay."
Doctor Reed stared at the viewscreen a moment and felt a cold shiver run down his spine. Not much phased him but a Federation starship adrift in space was definitely one of them. He nodded curtly and said, "Aye sir." Wheeling around, he disappeared into the turbolift.
"Lieutenant Sar, Lt Commander Horn, I want to know what those ships were, who they belong to and where they came from," Kane said, looking at his senior tactical officers. "If there are more out there I want to be ready. Lieutenant Mortigar can assist you in analysing telemetry."
Peter nodded. "We will go over the data," he promised, looking to the security and science chief respectively. "Whose office shall we meet at?" He asked them.
"My lab," Mortigar suggested. "We'll have access to all of the sensor data from there."
"Your lab it is," Peter agreed, "shall we meet there in ten minutes?"
"Sooner we get into the investigation the better." Dessame replied. She was still annoyed at what had happened. For some part she had felt Starfleet Intelligence should have known about his, or in some part been aware of dissidents, pirates or what ever they were. "We should bring one of their disabled vessels into the cargo bay as well. One that is not too badly damaged... I didn't destroy them all."
Yadira looked up when it was suggested to bring in a ship. "Oh please do! I want to get a good look at what makes that baby fly, and tick. Maybe then we can figure out how to defeat them", she said smiling.
Mortigar, who had risen from his seat and started walking towards the turbolift, added, "Call me a pacifist, but I sincerely hope that we do not have to defeat anyone else."
"There is nothing wrong with being a pacifist," Peter encouraged, "but it is always recommended to know how to fight in case you are forced to anyway."
"I will see to it that one is tractored in for you Commander." Dessame piped in. "Cargo Bay 2 is free at the moment. I will see that it is placed there and we can get a closer look at who we are dealing with..." she paused for a moment. "I wonder if its pilot will still be present."
"That would give medical a good idea of what happened. However, getting my hands dirty on this one would be a happy pleasure and a notch on my tool belt", Yadira said smiling.
Still gripping his armrests, Kane finally took a moment to breathe. He looked over at Santu.
"We'd better see if the Ambassador is okay. And inform the Paratans of this incident."
"Aye, aye, sir, I'll make sure to inform them and then join you in the medical bay." Santu stepped up to the centre of the bridge and put her hands behind her back. "Hail the Paratan embassy, priority one." The communications officer in the front of the bridge immediately complied with the request and started to punch in the required commands to establish a connection.
