“Well it’s going to take more than me asking questions to get answers out of that one,” Finnley nodded towards the Brill that Kevan was still holding down, “and since interrogations aren’t really my specialty I’m going to head back to engineering.” She casually waved bye to Kevan & Mason and added on a “Good luck!” as she left the phaser control room.
Let’s hope the turbolift gets me to the right deck this time she thought, stepping inside. “Deck 5,” Finnley announced the command as clearly as possible, hoping that would help her odds of ending up in the right spot. The turbolift moved, seemingly in the correct direction, and then came to a stop a few moments later. Finnley knew deck 5 like the back of her hand since she practically lived in engineering and was instantly disappointed when the doors opened to reveal that she was not, in fact, on deck 5.
“Ugh,” she let out an audible sound of annoyance and stepped back into the lift. Pieces of conduit shrapnel still infected her body from her earlier run in with an EPS conduit, her headache had only gotten worse after being in the phaser control room with whatever that device was that almost irradiated them and she wasn’t sure she could physically take crawling around in one more jefferies tube. Therefore, hoping that the turbolift would work the second time around was her best option. For a moment, she thought about going to sickbay, but the Captain needed more power and Finnley typically despised sickbay so she quickly dismissed the notion.
“Deck 5,” she said once more, praying with everything that it would work this time. The doors opened and Finnley said a silent prayer of thanks to whatever god had gotten the turbolift to cooperate as she headed towards engineering.
“Paxton, take whoever you need and make sure all of the tactical systems are up and running at full power,” she ordered as she walked into engineering and saw Paxton standing at a nearby console. “I’m going to work on getting the impulse drive to full power. Badge me if you run into any problems.”
Finnley started a diagnostic on the impulse engines as Paxton gathered a few crew and moved to work on the tactical systems. A few seconds passed and the console revealed that the impulse manifold needed to be purged and the response filters needed to be recalibrated. All in all, a not too difficult job.
About an hour passed before both tasks were done. Unfortunately, the impulse drive had taken enough damage that there was no way to get it back to full power, but she had been able to pull 90% of it back into action.
“Keating to Paxton, what’s the status on the tactical systems?” She asked, deciding to check on Paxton’s team now that the impulse drive was working as well as possible.
“We just got them back online at full power, Lieutenant.”
“Excellent work Paxton.” She replied and let out a sigh of relief. Perhaps now, I’ll get a five minutes to breathe before something else goes wrong.
