Ignorance is bliss

Savin glanced into the office first before looking around sickbay. He listened to the business in a place he called home. Except, this was the home of his younger self and he couldn't help but suppress a smile when he spotted the younger version of himself moving stiffly about. "Doctor," he called out, accompanying it with a mental call as well for the benefit of the younger man.

Barring a few greyer hairs perhaps, the two men could well pass for twins because due to their genetic makeup they aged much slower. The older Romulan waited patiently to be noticed, only to be confronted with a very startled younger self. The man looked less than thrilled at seeing his older self, noticing the very different bearing. "No," the younger Savin stated immediately, "I will not speak with you. You may find Doctor tr'Rehu in the office. Speak with him."

The older man seemed disappointed, but respected and understood his younger self. "As you wish," he answered and headed for the office. "Doctor tr'Rehu, I was directed to you to speak with, I wish to offer assistance."

NVeid initially looked up in surprise. "This is your sickbay," he answered, "you're already helping?" Then he took a closer look and started to see the minute differences. This man looked considerably more tired and there was a different feeling about him as he gently probed him with his mind. Not enough to try and read his mind but sufficient to get a read on his feelings. The man seemed more controlled than his younger self and there was something else ..

NVeid watched him for a few seconds longer, trying to pin down the oddity.

Savin sighed softly. "This is my younger self's sickbay and he does not wish to speak with me. I am not here to provide information about your future, I simply wish to offer the assistance of myself and some of my staff. It seems to me that the assistance would be welcome."

The Romulan hybrid nodded slowly. "We are severely understaffed," he admitted, "though Savin has enlisted able bodied crew to assist with moving the injured and the dead as necessary. We are harbouring refugees from all over the ship as sickbay seems to be the safest place on the ship."

Savin had been glancing towards the main sickbay area as the surgeon spoke then turned his head back. "If the injured are not injuring your staff," he commented dryly. "I will call for additional nurses from my sickbay so yours can have some rest. We will rotate them as necessary. I will take charge for now, so you can rest as well."

"I doubt Savin will agree to that," NVeid answered, seeming somewhat amused over that suggestion. "The EMH is offline, we're running on low power and have to diagnose by archaic methods to spare the tricorders. Any help you can provide is welcome."

"He will see the logic of my suggestion. He cannot afford to refuse the offer of additional staff, especially since he is not well either."

NVeid sighed. "I don't think you understand why he's object. You are him, you know things he doesn't and shouldn't know. Even I shouldn't know but like I said we need help."

"I am not offering knowledge of your future," the older Savin countered sharply.

"No. But we are telepaths, the risk of just accidentally learning something, especially for someone who relies on his telepathic senses, is just too great. Probably why he sent you to me because I don't rely on it as he does."

Savin nodded. "I can understand that part," he acknowledged. "Very well. I will return to my ship and I will arrange for medical supplies to be sent over, as well as willing nurses." With a final nod, the Romulan seemed to sweep out sickbay.

Once he was gone, NVeid returned to the main area of the medical bay and informed the chief medical officer of what was discussed. Savin sighed softly to himself. "Am I always this... persistent?" He asked quietly, though he didn't exactly expect an answer. "Assign the staff as needed and distribute the supplies. I am going to help move the deceased, to make room for new arrivals."
