Noah sat back in his chair aboard the shuttle as it exited the docking bay of Starbase Poseidon and angled toward the U.S.S. Athena. He smiled faintly, proud of the new ship upon which he'd get to run his own sickbay. There weren't too many Prometheus-class starships floating around and that just added to the prestige. He glanced over to the other passenger aboard. He was just about to say 'I didn't catch your name' but then realized that since the Vulcan hadn't offered it to him, it would be taken literally and he most likely would get that correction. "So what position are you going to be assuming aboard the Athena, sir?"
Turning his attention away from the giant canine that lay sleeping at his feet, Peter looked up at the young man who'd addressed him. "Chief Strategic Operations," he replied, catching the man's pride as it was plain to sense. "And you?" He pulled his foot back as the dog seemed to twitch in her sleep, her ears twitching slightly.
"Medical chief," he said with a faint nod. "That's a beautiful dog. Any particular breed?" He was familiar with several Earth breeds but that was about it. With the long history of colonization and cross-breeding, it would take a keener eye than his to determine the exact one this dog was a member of.
"German Shepherd and Targ mix," the Vulcanoid answered, reaching to ruffle the dog's fur. "I had her since she was a pup, and she is actually getting old now, but she does not feel that way it seems. She found me, actually... which is rather a long story." He looked back to where his children were playing. "My wife is a nurse, no doubt she is assigned to your staff."
Reed gave her a curt nod and a polite smile. "Yes, I'm sure she'll be the one holding the sickbay together most of the time." He returned his gaze out the front windows at the Athena as the shuttle bay got bigger. "Do you have any idea what our first assignment might be, sir?"
To that, Peter would have to owe him the answer. "I fear not, and please, just call me Peter. We are not yet on duty. I will make certain to stop by sickbay later for my boarding physical. I assume you will want my family to swing by as well?"
"That would be most acceptable, comm-Peter. Thank you." Reed smiled politely and looked back out the front viewports. This really felt like the start of a great adventure.
"Do you see pets too?" Peter asked, attempting to keep the conversation going.
Noah nodded. "Yes, I can see pets, though the resident folks in the xenobiology department actually have the veterinarian training for more rigorous issues. They typically have a room for animal exams on larger vessels. I'll have to see about that when we arrive."
"Alright. Just let us know when you want us for our physical. It does not have to be right after our arrival, I assume you wish to get settled first too." Peter smiled gently.
"Oh, of course. There's no rush to all that. Finding sickbay and getting things in order definitely comes first." He returned the smile with a warm one of his own.
Peter nodded. "Then I will come find you in a few days," he confirmed, before looking out the window. "Looks like we are coming up to the ship, I best go find my family and get them ready."
Reed nodded and gathered his bags closer as the Athena loomed large outside the viewport. "That sounds excellent, commander. I look forward to it." The excitement of arriving aboard the ship increased as they neared the shuttle bay. He couldn't wait to get settled in and check on his new department straight away.
