Whoopi Goldberg Diversity Ribbon

Awarded for the successful portrayal of a non-human character aboard a simulation.

In the interest of diversity, this award is granted to individuals who have done an exemplary job writing and developing their non-human characters. Playing ruthless Romulans, killer Klingons, freeloading Ferengi, clever Cardassians, benevolent Bajorans, vigilant Vulcans, aspiring Andorians and any others, while doing so in an excellent fashion, is worthy of recognition.

This award can also be used to commend those players who support other diversity factors in real life and our sims, including race, gender identity, ethnicity, and more.

I’ve had a really great and insightful time reading Savin’s posts. It’s always been good to read now players embody the typical spirit of a race they play, and diversity in this form is of course to be encouraged, but it”s so unusual to see a “real life” disability portrayed. Savin continually refers to the deafness, though these mentions are not token nor gratuitous and are instead clearly thoughtful and play a purposeful part in the story or dialogue. Having been involved in a couple of JPs with this character now, the portrayal of deafness is thought provoking and makes me, as a writer, have to reflect and acknowledge how my own character deals with someone with the disability.

To provoke thought and adaption in character is outstanding enough, but to purposefully and with deep consideration to be thought provoking to readers and fellow writers in real life is something on another level entirely.
